Horizontal Machining Centers

Competitive part production is a blend of fast machining cycles combined with a minimum of labor cost. Mazak Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC) feature high dynamics, rapid tool changes, and superior precision to answer the first piece of this equation. And many levels of modular automation can be applied to address the labor component.

Horizontal machining is classic choice for mass-production applications, but through the intelligent use of automation, lots-of-one and small batch machining can also reap the benefits of very quick cycle times. Some of the benefits of horizontal metal cutting include:

  • The machine configuration is inherently rigid, allowing higher rapid rates, acceleration (up to 2G), precision, and repeatability.
  • Larger tool storage capacities (up to 330 tools), which allow for both variety and redundancy of cutting tools for uninterrupted cutting.
  • On-board probing for part location and feature inspection within the cutting cycle.

  • Smaller footprint than most other machines
  • 3, 4, and 5-axis machining capabilities
  • A two-pallet changer is standard on most models, taking setup off-line and increasing chip-making time.
  • Pre-engineered 6-pallet rotary changers with load stations on several HMC models.
  • Configured for robot load/unload/secondary operations integration.
  • Pre-engineered Palletech® automated cells are incrementally expandable from 6 to 100 pallet stands.

Horizontal Center Nexus Series

Advanced machining technology meets value in horizontal machining centers.

The HCN-5000 horizontal machining center combines outstanding value with high performance features designed for maximum performance. All HCN models come equipped with the Mazatrol Matrix CNC control, featuring simple, smart conversational programming, complete with monitoring and diagnostics. It boasts a compact footprint, too. There isn’t another machine in its class that has so much to offer.

We’ve made numerous enhancements to the HCN Series, including the addition of a 50 taper model for heavier cutting. This chart will show you how the HCN-5000 stacks up to earlier model machines:

HCN NEXUS SERIES MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

  • Wide range of spindle power & speeds available.
  • Wide machining areas and large table capacities.
  • Narrow footprint for better floor space utilization.
  • Designed for ease of maintenance.
  • Wide variety of tool magazines available.
  • One piece base design.
  • Core cooled ballscrews for speed and accuracy.

FH & PFH Series

Our extended family of HMCs with tables from 15.75″ to 49.2″. 40 & 50 taper plus high precision.

Traditionally, Mazak horizontal machining centers have been the backbone of large-scale production facilities worldwide. Today, Mazak horizontals are available in dozens of spindle and table configurations with an extensive range of options, making them a smart choice for small-medium-large lot production. New technologies like linear motors and our new μ Series of machines have enhanced performance to near jig-bore accuracies. Plus, the new FF and F3 Series offer 1-2G acceleration. Mazak horizontals offer dependable and reliable chip cutting no matter how you set them up.

Pair them with a robot or a Palletech system for unmanned operation. Or triple your tool capacity and run multiple parts without a changeover.

MAZAK HMCs MAIN CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Stability and high accuracy
  • High performance and productivity
  • A wide variety of configurations
  • Minimal thermal distortion – many models have cooled ball screws and spindle
  • Mazatrol CNC control on most Mazak HMCs, FANUC available on select models
